A 19TH CENTURY GREEK REVIVAL PATINATED BRONZE URN
A patinated bronze urn in the form of a Greek Volute Krater of the Archaic period; with volute handles, the top part decorated with ornamental motifs including gadroons and palm leaves, and the belly with a freize of finely incised figurative decoration in low relief depicting Dionysus surrounded by revelling maenads and satyr of the Bacchic thiasos, or ecstatic retinue. The socle decorated with acanthus leaf and lamb’s tongue motifs. The whole resting on a black marble plinth.
