19TH CENTURY LANDSCAPE OF BLEA TARN AND HONISTER CRAG, CUMBERLAND. ATTRIBUTED TO SAMUEL BOUGH RSA (1822–1878)
A small landscape painting in oil on canvas depicting a 19th century scene of two figures, probably tourists, one on horseback, the other seated on an outcrop admiring the view of Honister crag and Blea tarn. An ink on paper label verso inscribed Blea Lake and Honister Crag, Sam Bough.
Samuel Bough RSA was born in Carlisle, Cumberland in 1822 though developed his reputation in Scotland for harbour scenes and landscapes for which he is best known. His work also included numerous landscapes of the English Lake District depicting the mountain scenery of his county of birth.
