A FINE NEOCLASSICAL CHIMNEYPIECE OF WHITE STATUARY MARBLE
The breakfront moulded shelf carved with dentils above a frieze decorated with a central tablet sculpted with a muse, probably Erato, reclining against a celestial globe whilst reading, gathering inspiration for her Lyric and Love poetry a lyre with a scroll of music and a quill on a lectern at her feet. The tablet flanked by swags of bell flowers tied with ribbons. The ends of the frieze with carved oval paterae end blocks above jambs decorated with graduated inverted falling flower heads. The inground frame is bordered on the outside with carved fluted moulding with round paterae at the corners.
